Difficulty raising and lowering the mainsail

In the first place, you should always raise and lower the mainsail in the wind (refer also to your manual).
Secondly, the runners should not be worn or damaged. Finally, it is recommended that you clean and inspect your mast groove regularly. It is also advisable to lubricate the mast groove with Teflon spray.
